Chlorine production calculator (Hayward salt system)
How much chlorine does your salt system really make? Pick your cell, the percentage you set and how many hours the pump runs: the calculator shows the chlorine produced, in grams and pounds.
Applies to: Aqua Rite, Aqua Trol, Swim Pure, Pro Logic, Aqua Logic, Aqua Rite PRO, OmniLogic and OmniPL with a Hayward T-CELL-3, 5, 9 or 15.
Chlore produit par jour
0 g · 0 lb
Estimation : le soleil et la baignade consomment une partie du chlore. Testez l’eau le matin et visez environ 1 ppm.
How it’s calculated
At 100% with the pump running 24 hours a day, a cell makes at most:
| Cell | Chlorine per day at 100% |
|---|---|
| T-15 | 1.5 lb (680 g) |
| T-9 | 1 lb (454 g) |
| T-5 | 0.8 lb (363 g) |
| T-3 | 0.5 lb (227 g) |
The percentage is the share of the pump run time during which the cell produces. At 50% with the pump running 12 hours, the cell produces 6 hours a day. The system only produces while the pump runs.
Setting the right percentage
- The percentage only sets how much chlorine is made per day. Adjust it by testing the chlorine in the morning (the sun destroys some during the day): aim for about 1 ppm.
- It’s rarely more than 30%, except for a very large pool. Example: 26,000 gallons (100,000 L), T-15 cell, pump 24 h a day: about 20% in peak summer and 15% the rest of the season, even less with a solar cover.
- A percentage set too high wears the cell faster and fades the liner.
- Keep the pH at 7.4: it slowly rises with a salt system, and at pH 8 it takes 3 times more chlorine.
- Stabilizer protects the chlorine from the sun, but too much makes it less effective. Have your water tested.
Chlorine still low, even with a high percentage? The cell may be worn, or the system may show a wrong salt reading. The troubleshooting guide helps you find out if it’s the cell or the board.
