“HOT” or “COLD” on your Aqua Rite display: cell or board?
“HOT” means the system reads water that is too hot, usually because of the cell’s temperature sensor. “COLD” means the water is below the minimum to make chlorine: that’s normal in spring and fall. A two-minute test tells you if it’s the cell or the board.
Applies to: Aqua Rite / AquaRite, Aqua Trol / AquaTrol, Swim Pure and Aqua Nature. For the Pro Logic, Aqua Logic and Omni, see below.
1. Compare the temperature
With the switch on AUTO, press Diagnostic once: the temperature read by the cell is shown. Compare it with the real pool temperature.
- It matches and the display shows COLD: the water really is cold. The system will start producing again when the water warms up.
- It’s very different: go to step 2.
2. Unplug the cell to test the board
- Show the temperature (press Diagnostic once).
- Right away, unplug the cell cable.
- Look at the value shown.
- 77 °F or 25 °C: the board is fine, it’s the cell (its temperature sensor). Check the cell warranty or the store.
- Another value: the board reads the temperature wrong and needs a repair.
Check first: the cell cable must be plugged in properly, and the cell plugged in must be the one in the water. A spare cell lying nearby reads the air temperature.
Pro Logic, Aqua Logic, Aqua Rite PRO and Omni
On these systems, a temperature message is diagnosed from photos of the diagnostic values. Send them to us: we’ll tell you if it’s the cell or the board. The troubleshooting guide shows you how to take them.
